One of my favorite parts of being a “grown up” is going out to dinner to really cool places with awesome company. I love trying new spots and definitely new foods.
Colin and I went to his office party this past Saturday – it was a pre-fixe menu which I LOVE every now and then. I’ll tell you why: Sometimes it’s a pain in the ass to make decisions. When you go to a restaurant there are usually SO many great options, it’s hard to choose. When faced with this dilemma I typically find myself going with something on the “safe” side, something I know I’ll enjoy. However, when the menu has been chosen for you, it’s a total sit-back-and-relax situation. Plus, you never know what foods you’re going to try and totally fall in love with which is fun.
The party was at a place in Somerville – the home and sort of ‘underground restaurant’ of the (extremely gracious and kind) Angelina and Alberto, called Casa Bobonis. This delightful, Somerville gem provided us with exactly what they claim to provided guests with on their homepage,
“Our food and atmosphere are a result of our life and travel experiences, creating a gastronomical fusion of Latin American flavors that will open your senses into a different world.”
The menu was amazing and I loved everything! What a joy it was to try new flavors and dishes while meeting and chatting with our lovely group; Aaron, Polly, Amir, Mina, Ryan, Stephanie, Megan, Mark, Nima and Sofia.
A sneak peek at the menu:
- Soup Course – Vegetable consommé with crisp vegetables and plantain ball
- Salad Course – Yucca, farmers cheese, poached egg and roasted pepper salad with cilantro vinaigrette
- First Course – Colombiana shrimp Hayaca, Puertorican lobster pastel and Mexican Cod Tamal
- Second Course – Puertorican roasted pork with pigeon peas risotto
- Dessert Course – Puertorrican donuts in syrup with chocolate coconut guava truffle
Have a look:
Alberto and Angelina also cater and are opening a restaurant in Union Square soon! Very excited about it.

My kindness for today: I went to the Christmas show at Meg’s school to not only support Meg, but to support the boys as well as their community. It was a wonderful time, they did a great job and it definitely helped get me into the Christmas spirit!

It was an exceptionally awesome evening. I can’t wait until they open their restaurant.
