100 Days of Kindness, Day 57

Tonight I visited with my two best friends – Mary and Heather – who I’ve known forever. We’ve been through it all together – the good, the really good, the bad, the really bad and the ugly. They’re my sisters – my whole family considers them just as much of the family as anyone else.

It’s tough being older with real jobs and law school and bills and boyfriends and family stuff and commitments, etc. etc. etc. It’s not as simple as it used to be when the most worrisome thing in our lives was whether we were going to hang out at Marys house or my house. Or whether we’d try to get the guys to hang out, or if we just wanted to go to the diner, order cheese fries and just make each other laugh.

It’s still so important (probably now more than ever because we don’t see each other nearly as much) to make time for one another. It’s definitely more of an effort now, because there are just so many other things going on in our lives, so many other factors – but it’s so worth it. Seeing Mary and Heather makes me so happy.

It’s tough when I come home because unfortunately it’s usually a pretty short visit and I wanna spend time with my family as well as my friends. It’s nice when I can mix it all together, but that’s not always doable. Plus it’s good sometimes to just catch up with the girls so we can get the real scoop on each other’s lives not the modified ‘family’s around’ scoop. :)

My kindness today was skipping out on some family time (they went to see the Fockers movie) to go to dinner with Mary and Heather. I’m so glad we were able to spend time together - we had so much fun!

A good night with the girls reminds me of how much I miss them everyday. It’s just harder these days. I think I have a case of ‘growing pains’. Getting older is tough…
