Yikes! 100 Days of Kindness, Day 99

I can’t believe tomorrow is Day 100 of my 100 Days of Kindness project. It’s crazy how fast 100 days can go by.

One of the things I wanted to do before my little project was over was to buy a bunch of goodies and send them over to the troops (because honestly, who deserves it more?). I stopped at Walmart on my way home today and stocked up. I texted my friend Chris (who served overseas in the Marines) for suggestions. I also had Molly ask her friend Danielle – her father is in the Army – for more suggestions. Then I knew this act of kindness was meant to be, because I saw an Army man in uniform right when I walked into Walmart. I awkwardly went up to him and told him what I was doing, what I planned on getting and asked him what he thought I should get. He kindly helped me with ideas for most of the items on my list. I thanked him for what he is doing (and for his help with my kindness for today) and wished him goodnight.

What did I end up getting? Packs of gum, Lifesavers, fruit snacks, oatmeal, Valentine’s candy (Sweethearts and nerds), hot chocolate packs, Ramen, ESPN magazine, Glamour magazine, tea, mango iced tea packs to go, coffee and a nice card.

I put little sticky notes on each treat; for example – “Lifesavers for lifesavers”, “Delicious New England coffee from Boston”, “Who doesn’t like Ramen?”, etc. I wanted to make the package as cheery as possible. I tried to imagine if I were the person receiving this package…

I’m away from home, having a bad day, feeling particularly homesick – when I hear that we got a fun surprise from a random person. Yes! They sent my favorite, Nerds!…Today is the best day ever!

Maybe that won’t happen, but I do think the package I’m sending will be appreciated. I know I had fun putting it together!

The goodies!

ESPN, Glamour

Happy Valentine's Day!
