5 Must-See Summer Movies

{Thanks Oscartini! I personally cannot wait to see Eclipse when I get back from Ireland! PS – A very very very happy birthday to one of my best friends in the world, Miss. Christine aka Salt. Love you! Can’t wait to celebrate when I’m back! Enjoy your day :)}

With the mercury hovering in the 80’s and 90’s and another hot, humid summer set to take over Boston, what activity is the perfect blend of popcorn, entertainment and air conditioner? A movie, of course! Seeing as I blog about all things movies over at Oscartini, I was psyched when Colleen asked if I would share my top summer movies while she’s living it up in Ireland!

So now without further ado, here are the 5 must-see summer movies of 2010. *Disclaimer: this list is by no means definitive and could indeed not be *your* cup of tea J

First up is Going the Distance, starring real-life on and off again couple Drew Barrymore and Justine Long (AKA the Mac Guy). Out on August 27, this romcom looks at the long-distance relationship between Drew’s character Erin and Justin’s Garrett, complete with its ups and downs. If the trailer is any indication, expect to laugh and cry in this late summer arrival!

Next up is a movie I know many people (ok, mostly women!) are psyched to see: Eclipse. The third movie in the Twilight Saga is out June 30, and unless you’ve been living under a rock the last 2 years, you know what Team Edward and Team Jacob mean! From what I’ve seen, this is a movie for boyfriends too, with a lot of vampire and wolf battle action sure to please everyone

Eat, Pray, Love, starring the always-wonderful Julia Roberts is out on August 13 and directed by Glee creator Ryan Murphy. Based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir of the same name, Eat Pray, Love promised to deliver some seriously awesome settings, with portions of the movie taking place in Italy, Indonesia and India. This is Julia’s first starring role since last year’s Duplicity, which didn’t do very well; I anticipate this will be a big hit this August!

Directed by The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception looks like this summer’s biggest thriller.  Out on July 16, word on the street is that this is one movie that you will really need to pay attention to, or else you’ll get lost, which doesn’t always make the best summer movie! IMDB’s synopsis on Inception is: “In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one’s mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset.” Sounds cool, right?

And now, the absolute must-see movie of the summer is…Toy Story 3! Out since June 18th, Woody and Buzz’s third and final installment has been at the top of the box office and has been receiving great reviews from audiences and critics, with some early Oscar buzz too! Andy’s toys are donated to a daycare center when Andy goes off to college; expect to see lots of new characters and an awesome big screen experience for all ages!

So there you have it Daily Craic readers, my top picks for this summer’s best movies! Do you agree or disagree with any of these picks? Which movies are you looking most forward to seeing this summer?

Don’t use breast milk as a weapon!

Someone needs to tell Patrick Kennedy to take it down a notch.

It’s almost the weekend Paddy, relax!

Maybe he would be happier if he attended the Southie St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday..

I’ve never been before, so it’s time to turn it up a notch (unlike Paddy, he’ll hopefully be turning it down.) I’ll be going this year to see what it’s all about. I’ve heard all the hoopla, so it should be interesting. It starts at 1pm on Broadway. Looking forward to all the drunken Irishness and pretend Irishness, because remember – everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

Before the parade I have some business to take care of. Colin and I, along with my sister Meg and her fiance Matt are running in the Ras na hEireann (“The Race of Ireland and United States of America.”) It’s a 5K, Irish themed race, starts at 11am in Davis Square, Somerville. There will be 5,000 runners! This is the 7th year it has sold out. I can only imagine the characters that’ll be there. Should be some great craic!

In Jay-Z related news, he’ll be performing at the Garden tonight. Unfortunately I will not be in attendance, however I’m figuring since I have to take the commuter rail home from North Station I’ll probably run into Hova and B and then they’ll most likely either offer me tickets or invite me to look on from backstage. I’m not sure if I’ll accept or not cause I do have to get to the gym tonight, so well see…

Apparently Young Jeezy (who is opening tonight) is pairing up with Jay-Z’s better half for his upcoming album. Since everything Beyonce touches turns to gold, I’m prettty sure this one will be a hit. I’m excited for it.

They have released a full length trailer for Eclipse! Indulge:

Also - Congratulations to Rascal, The World’s Ugliest Dog!

Rascal is an 8-year-old 7lb Chinese Crested pure bred. According to http://www.ugliestdogs.net/worldsugliestdog.html ‘Rascal’s grandfather “Chi Chi” is in the Guinness Book of World Records for winning the most ugly dog contests and was undefeated with seven ugly dog wins.’ I guess it’s in the genes. Rascal has appeared on a number of TV shows and currently has two movies in the works, keep your eyes peeled for those.

More congratulations are in order for the beautiful Betty White who will be hosting SNL on May 8th. This will be White’s first time as host, and this will also make her the oldest person (age 88) to ever host SNL. According to Seattlepi.com [http://www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/416493_tvgif11.html] she’s bringing some friends with her. Apparently Tina Fey, Amy Phehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch will be joining Ms. White, which should be pretty hilarious. SNL might just be funny again on May 8th, we’ll just have to wait and see…

And now, just a quick WARNING: Don’t use breast milk as a weapon!  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,588369,00.html?mep

In restaurant related news, EVOO is now open in Kendall Square. Owned by Peter and Colleen McCarthy (nice Irish names) and now located (they just moved from Somerville) at 350 3rd Street, Cambridge. For reservations call 617-661-3866 or go to http://www.evoorestaurant.com/. Their entrees range from $25-$31 with everything from Roasted Organic Squash, Duck, Beef Tenderloin, etc. Personally I’m excited for the opening of their sister restaurant Za which will be located right next to EVOO (I believe they will also keep their Arlington location open as well.) Za will offer a variety of pizzas and salads along with a great selection of wine and beer, visit them at http://www.zarestaurant.com/index.html.

Lastly, originally found on http://www.bostonrestaurantdeals.com/free-medium-coffee-at-dunkin-donuts-every-monday-in-march/ Dunkin Donuts is giving away free medium coffees (hot or iced) every Monday in March.  There are 3 Mondays left, take advantage of their free coffee!

Celtics, Nomar, Burritos, Eclipse

Tonight, my boyfriend Colin and I are headed to the Garden to watch the Celtics take on the Memphis Grizzlies. I haven’t been to a game since October [seen here in the picture above. Our friends were watching the game at home, saw us, paused the TV, took a picture of us, then sent it to our phones. Oh technology these days...] so I’m pumped for tonight. To me, no other sporting event is like going to a basketball game. It reminds me of my youth – sigh – I’m interested to see how Nate Robinson does, it’s my first time seeing him with the Celtics. I don’t know though, because I do miss Eddie House…

On another Boston sports related note, Nomar Garciaparra announced his retirement this morning. He signed a one-day contract with the Red Sox in order to retire as a member of the team.

Not a bad deal. Play in the big leagues for fourteen years as a fan favorite, marry a famous soccer player [Mia Hamm] then retire at the ripe old age of 36 with the team you spent nine seasons playing for, to then go on to become a baseball analyst for ESPN. Nice job Nomar. With that, I’ll leave you with this:

Colin and I met Nomar in the Bahamas this past January. He was his wife Mia’s caddy at the Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf Tournament. He was extremely nice and truly made Colin’s day, or trip maybe, or even life possibly?… Congratulations on your retirement!

In entertainment news, a teaser from the upcoming installment of the Twilight Saga:Eclipse has been released. It’s only :10 seconds, but if your obsessed or going through Twilight withdrawals…you’ll enjoy it, you might even need it.

And in food news, BostonTweet says the Boloco locations at Northeastern, Tufts and Newbury Street are giving out free burritos today from 11am-8pm. Hurry!
