There’s something about having breakfast for dinner that feels really comforting. It’s like being transported back to my youth — like I’m getting a treat ’cause Mom decided to make bacon and eggs for dinner or Dad got home early from work and decided to cook up some pancakes or French toast. While it’s not something I’d want every single day, it is a lovely change of pace every now and then.
Fairly recently I visited the (charming) Friendly Toast in Cambridge with a couple of girlfriends and really enjoyed it. They have a delicious selection of breakfast choices, sandwiches, wraps, apps, smoothies, and lots more! I ordered my usual go-to option for places that serve breakfast; two eggs over easy with home fries and whole wheat toast (with coffee of course — even though it was nighttime — I’m such a rebel.)

I briefly looked at the delicious ‘sandwiches, burritos and more’ portion of the menu and easily could have gone with a loveable BLT or equally loveable grilled cheese. However, the thought of breakfast for dinner really warmed my heart, so I went with that.
The Friendly Toast is a quirky little spot with old school decorations on the walls and a “classic diner” vibe (with a funky twist) in its soul. They have two locations — Cambridge, MA and Portsmouth, NH. I would love to visit the Portsmouth location as well (Portsmouth is great!), so hopefully I’ll be back to try more of their breakfast options or to dive into the ‘sandwiches, burritos and more’ section!
PS: Little special surprise — they serve beer!
